Hellooo everyone 🙂
It’s weekend! 😀 eeeep! I’m sure you’re making the most of it already. I’ve been working on a few projects that I’ll be posting soon so keep stalking us here 😛 It’s been quite some time since I did an outfit post. Let’s just say, finding a good photographer to work with is super difficult! My personal photographer Mr.Jeromy is in another time zone altogether 🙁 I miss him so much!
Today, I’m going to be talking about a brand that has caught my muse lately! Yes, Des-saints Raiment 🙂 I know you must be intrigued to know the story behind the name as well as the brand and what they do, so here it is, an introduction from the founder of Des-saints Raiment, Lynnete Rolland 🙂
—- It was on the 25th of July 2015, the doodles on my Financial Management Notebooks in college finally came to life. A BBM student with an eye for fashion, I had always wanted to experience what it was like to be an entrepreneur. A friend had planted this idea in my head, and while we tried to make it work together, he had other priorities and the idea was kept on a hold. However the thought never ceased to nag me. I’ve always loved reading about fashion in tabloids and my friends used to often appreciate my dress sense. So I thought, though we hadn’t scrapped the idea altogether, what if I did this on my own?
So one fine morning after consulting my friend, and after a series of sleepless nights and after just quitting my job at Tesco, I took a deep breath and decided to give this a shot. Being on a shoestring budget, several negative thoughts plagued my mind – ‘What if you make a loss?’, ‘But you aren’t a student of Fashion!’, ‘ But what will people say?’, ‘You gave up your awesome job to do THIS?’. Well, fighting the negativity wasn’t easy. Though my parents were supportive, people talk (they always have to talk, don’t they?). People began to ask my mom – ‘ Oh, did she start this coz she isn’t getting a job anywhere? My daughter has already got a promotion in XYZ company’. And blah blah. Well you cannot please everyone can you?
Anyway long story short, I decided to keep all this behind me and regardless of what I felt the outcome would be, I started the process. It took me a month to get everything going and decide the name, my suppliers and the marketplaces where I was to sell. Doing everything by yourself from scratch wasn’t easy. There were days when I used to do everything right from the ironing to tagging the clothes to pasting shipping labels on the parcels, working non stop from 9am to 1am. But the experience of it was priceless.
Before I knew it, we were on Amazon.in. And then boom, we were also on Flipkart, Voonik and Paytm, Jabong now being underway. And that’s how from my modest apartment in BTM layout, we are now shipping successfully pan India and the success story of Des-saints (read Dey-Sont) began. We now have a warehouse near Kudlu gate, where our stock is kept.
It has been less than four months now, and we have seen a steady growth with each passing month. We specialize in westernwear for women; with casual and formal wear catering mostly to the 16-30 yrs age group. Most of our styles cannot be found anywhere in India as they’re all handpicked, imported and unique. Every item that is shipped out is packaged with love and care, and that is evident when you receive it 🙂
I’ve always been a fan of the ‘Yves Saint Laurent’ brand, and when I was thinking of a name for my brand, I couldn’t help being influenced by this. Almost every other name I came up with that began with ‘Saint’ was either the name of a street or a place or some jazz. Then it finally struck me, why should I think about 1 saint when there can be many? 😉 and that’s how ‘Des-saints’ was conceived, meaning ‘Of the saints’ in French.
Looking back, I would be lying if I say I there was nothing I could have done differently. But I know for certain that it all boils down to one thing – that by the grace of God and the support I received from family and friends, I didn’t end up doing what the so called society wants. I’m doing what I love and I don’t regret it, as I now don’t have to work a day in my life. —-
I hope this really helped you give an idea about what Des-saints Raiment is 🙂 I have seen her start this venture and witnessed the progress it’s gone through. This constantly reminds me of one thing I always keep stressing on in real life and the virtual world – do what you love, success will eventually fall in place when it has to 🙂
Okay, moving on to what I’m wearing today for this post today and why I named it Simpsons 😛 Pretty obvious, isn’t it? I’ve been posting about my Bart Simpson crop top all over my social media. Haha 😀 You must have already seen how I styled one of my crop tops here but this time, I’ve styled the crop top differently! I’ve heard many ask or tell me that they love crop tops but can’t style it because either they are not comfortable with it or it’s to do with the “no midriff show” policy by orthodox Indian parents but where you can show everything else when in a saree or lehenga 😛 I don’t get the logic but this post is centered around this topic. Firstly, I would ask you to be comfortable in what you wear. Don’t care about the people around you because they are there only to talk! What you really need to care about is how you could style it in a way that earns respect as well as admiration.
So today, I’m wearing a crop top that I styled specifically keeping this thought in mind. What I’ve done here is – I’ve styled Des-Saints Raiment Bart Simpson Crop Top with black palazzos. And if you notice, there’s a camisole I’m wearing that I’ve colour coded with my palazzo pants. Why colour coded? Bceause you don’t want to wear a different coloured camisole underneath that. It wouldn’t go well and this is my suggestion. So if you don’t want to try the usual crop top style bearing your midriff, you could definitely try this! 🙂
What I love about this Bart Simpson crop top is that, it’s new and creative. I’ve not seen anyone else do this pattern before and that’s what makes it unique 🙂 And for all those Simpsons fans, you gotta love it 😀
For the second outfit, I’ve styled Des-saints Raiment Embroidered Capri with this bright yellow top! I absolutely love this capri because it’s comfortable and unique in style. I haven’t seen such embroidered capris anywhere before and I’ve already been wearing this “on repeat” mode 😀 Amp it up for a night out with stillettos and a tunic or dress it down like how I have for a casual day out with friends or family. I’ve finished the look with a pair of flatforms 🙂
What I noticed and loved about Des-saints Raiment is that they are not like the the usual brands selling similar designs in the market! They strive to stand out with their designs and I have seen that even with these two pieces from their collection that I’ve styled today 🙂 Also, they send out cute handwritten personalized notes to customers with surprise discount codes! We always love some personalization, don’t we? 😉
And guess what? We love Des-saints Raiment so much that we have decided to do a giveaway with them very soon!
Stay tuned! 🙂
